It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially since we’ve wrapped up our first term, and while we’re super excited about Christmas we cannot help but feel a little sad that this term is already over…but what a term it’s been.

We finished on Saturday in style and our pupils went out with a bang as they took part in our first every Winter Showcase ❄️ and performed pieces from poetry, to acting, singing and mime in front of their toughest critics (their friends and family)! The results were truly amazing and both Kevin and myself are extremely proud of each and everyone. It really is amazing what imagination and team work can achieve in a short we few weeks.

But of course we’re not just proud,of our students because of their impressive performance at our Showcase but because of the amazing work they did all term long. Here’s what our students got up over the last 12 weeks.

Our Infants worked hard all term learning poems and rhymes, creating stories and work through the media of puppetry. This term we read Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Grufflo’ and focused on all the characters in the book and their moods, facial expressions and even how they moved. All our work resulted in our Infants performing in their own fantastic Showcase performing the rhymes, Hairy Jacket, Jumping Bean and Pilly Willy Pop, making Christmas Shapes and finishing with the poem Lazy Little Alligator. Friends and families were super impressed.

This term our Juniors focused particularly on storytelling and improving our fluency through games and exercises. Our hard worked resulted in our Juniors performing 3 pieces at our  Winter Showcase, the poem ‘Big Fat Bugdgie’, acted ‘the 3 Little Pig’ by Marian Swinger, and sang and danced to Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

While this term our Intermediates worked on all aspects our the Speech and Drama syllabus from acting, improv, mime, choral verse poetry, creating, storytelling and devising. All this work resulted in our Intermediates performing an enormous amount of pieces in our showcase including ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’, poetry ‘Santa’s Elves’, movement to music ‘Christmas Morning’, and solo dramas ‘Not Medicine’, ‘Own Room’ and ‘Pick Me’.

While with our Seniors we worked on Status and creating silence in performance.

We brought our Showcase to a close in style with all our pupils and their friends and family sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer together.

We had a great time this term preparing for our showcase and we hope everyone enjoyed our Showcase and indeed our term as much as we did 🎄

All that’s left for me to say now is from everyone at Spotlight Speech and Drama School we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year 🎅

See y’all in January for another fun filled term 🎭
